Kolon Benit and Rebellion announced on the 25th that they have signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Strategic Cooperation on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology Collaboration and Market Expansion.'
Kang Igu, CEO of Kolon Benit (left), and Park Sung-yeon, CEO of Rebellion, signed an MOU at the Kolon Benit headquarters located in Kolon Tower on the 25th.
Kolon Benit plans to expand the AI acceleration market and strengthen Korea's competitiveness in the global AI ecosystem by collaborating with Rebellion, an AI semiconductor company focused on Neural Processing Units (NPU).
'AI Acceleration Service' is a business that provides AI-dedicated hardware and software, along with technical consulting, to enhance AI inference capabilities. The core is to build AI-dedicated infrastructure and business models that process data quickly and optimize resources. NPU is a semiconductor optimized for deep learning algorithm computations, a core role of AI, and offers more energy-efficient and faster computation than GPUs.
Kolon Benit will support the advancement of Rebellion's NPU technology and optimize it for enterprise environments. The goal is to improve AI NPU technology performance and internalize it for corporate clients to reduce GPU dependency and promote the growth of domestic AI companies.
The two companies plan to collaborate on ▲ AI solution development and commercialization ▲ expansion of NPU business partnerships ▲ technology and business feasibility verification projects. Through the 'Construction Site Safety Monitoring AI CCTV Business Demonstration Project' scheduled for the end of this year, they will verify the 'AI Vision' technology applied with Rebellion's new NPU 'ATOM' and also examine the potential for new business commercialization.
With Kolon Benit's AI research and development (R&D) capabilities and Rebellion's NPU technology, the two companies plan to grow the AI acceleration service. They will also actively utilize the business partnerships of the 'Kolon Benit AI Alliance,' which includes about 60 AI-specialized companies in Korea.
Park Seong-hyun, CEO of Rebellion, said, "We want to provide the AI semiconductor technology developed by Rebellion as a complete service to customers," adding, "By joining hands with Kolon Benit, we will strive to discover exemplary cases where NPU can be utilized in actual corporate business environments and demonstrate the potential of new AI business models."
Kang I-gu, CEO of Kolon Benit, stated, "We will expand the high value-added AI semiconductor ecosystem together with Rebellion, which has NPUs optimized for high-performance algorithm computations," and added, "Beyond providing solutions and services, we will accelerate customer growth and innovate business models to complete the AI new business value chain."
