Adoption of Resolution Urging Abolition of Central Regional Office System in Yangpyeong-gun

Yangpyeong County Council Unanimously Adopts Resolution... "Stop the Implementation of the System"
Yangpyeong County Village Chiefs Association Plans to Submit Petition Against to Police Station

Adoption of Resolution Urging Abolition of Central Regional Office System in Yangpyeong-gun Yangpyeong County Council adopted the "Resolution to Urge the Abolition of the Yangpyeong County Central Area Police Station System" on the 24th.

The Yangpyeong County Council in Gyeonggi Province (Chairman Hwang Seon-ho) held the 304th extraordinary session on the 25th and unanimously adopted the "Resolution Urging the Abolition of the Yangpyeong County Central Area Police Station System."

The resolution adopted that day was proposed by all council members, represented by Vice Chairman Oh Hye-ja, citing the problems with the central area police station system being promoted by the National Police Agency and urging the abolition of the system, especially calling for the suspension of its implementation in Yangpyeong County.

The central area police station system is a system that allocates personnel and equipment from small-scale local police stations to central area police stations to enhance on-site response capabilities in emergencies. However, since limited resources are concentrated in central areas, there is a growing concern that security gaps may occur in small-scale local areas.

In particular, Yangpyeong County is classified as a third-class area because it is a county, making it subject to the system's implementation. However, compared to other second-class areas such as Yeoju City and Sokcho City, Yangpyeong County has a larger population and the largest area among the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province. If the central area police station system is implemented, eight out of the twelve police substations in the county's towns and townships will be downsized, resulting in a significant scale of security gaps.

Accordingly, the Yangpyeong County Council, for the protection of residents' lives and maintenance of public order, through the resolution, urged ▶ the immediate abolition of the central area police station system, which prioritizes residents' safety last and is premised on the abolition of small-scale local police stations ▶ the National Police Agency to recognize the unique characteristics of Yangpyeong County and suspend the implementation of the central area police station system in Yangpyeong County solely because it is classified as a third-class area ▶ the Yangpyeong Police Station to gather residents' petitions and opinions, deliver them to the National Police Agency, and promptly seek ways to improve the system so that residents can trust and rely on the police.

At the extraordinary session, about 20 members of the Yangpyeong County Village Chiefs Association (President Jang Myeong-woo) attended and shared the intention to abolish the system.

The Yangpyeong County Village Chiefs Association stated, "We argue for the immediate withdrawal of the central area police station base patrol duty, which only designates bases and involves police officers patrolling on foot, as it is far from strategic security activities based on accurate data analysis. This system causes residents' concerns and anxiety about security gaps. We will submit a petition opposing the system, prepared by the association, to the police station and other relevant authorities."
