At the 2024 Miss Korea pageant, Kim Chaewon (22, Seoul-Gyeonggi-Incheon representative) was crowned the winner. Now in its 68th year, the Miss Korea pageant was an opportunity for 24 contestants, who embody intelligence, virtue, and physical beauty, to showcase their talents and charm to the fullest. According to Hankook Ilbo, the finals of the Miss Korea pageant, hosted by Global E&B, were held on the 24th at the COEX Auditorium in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

This year’s Miss Korea pageant focused on evaluating the contestants’ intelligence, character, as well as their sense of public responsibility as Miss Korea and clear visions for their dreams. As a result, Kim Chaewon, a Yonsei University student majoring in Media and Communication, won the title of Miss Korea. Her distinctive elegant aura reportedly received especially high praise from the judges throughout the competition.
Kim, who was crowned Miss Korea, described herself as a “student who only studied” and said, “If a film director is someone who breathes messages into media, I thought Miss Korea is someone who can directly appeal those messages, which is why I decided to participate.” Kim also received applause during the Q&A session in the finals. When asked by the MC, “If there were no erasers in the world, how would you cover up mistakes?” she answered, “If I cannot erase them, I would turn to the next page and write again. By recording it that way, I can avoid repeating the same mistakes.”

Having gained diverse experiences from film production to modeling, Kim expressed her ambition to “grow into a female leader who can represent South Korea.” Her role models are Damien Chazelle, director of the films La La Land and Whiplash, and Bong Joon-ho, director of Parasite, The Host, and Memories of Murder. Kim said, “I am someone who really has many things I want to do,” and added, “As someone who dreams of becoming a film director, I want to create content that can widely promote Korea.”
Following Kim, the first runner-up title went to Park Heeseon (21, Seoul-Gyeonggi-Incheon runner-up, majoring in Information Systems at Carnegie Mellon University, USA). The second runner-up title was awarded to Yoon Hayoung (22, Daejeon-Sejong-Chungcheong winner, majoring in Dance at Ewha Womans University). The Friendship Award and Popularity Award were won by Choi Jungeun (24, Miss Korea Global, International University) and Park Yebin (22, Jeonbuk winner, Konkuk University), respectively. The Global E&B Award went to Park Nahyun (21, Busan, majoring in Business Administration at Pusan National University), and the M-Park Award was given to Lee Jaewon (25, Gwangju, graduate student in Physical Education and Leisure Education at Yonsei University).
