When converted to a monthly salary based on 209 hours, this amounts to 2,296,910 KRW, which is 58,520 KRW more than this year's 2,238,390 KRW and 200,640 KRW more than the next year's minimum wage equivalent of 2,096,270 KRW.
This living wage was determined after comprehensive review of various indicators such as the minimum wage increase rate, projected inflation rate, and changes in household expenditure of workers' families, followed by deliberation by the committee.
The increased living wage will be applied from January 1, 2025, to approximately 1,500 workers employed by the city, city-invested and funded institutions, and organizations receiving subsidies entrusted with city affairs.
Meanwhile, the living wage is a system where local governments pay wages slightly higher than the minimum wage to workers employed at public institutions to help them maintain a more comfortable livelihood. Yeosu City enacted and has been implementing the related ordinance since 2017, and this is the eighth time the living wage has been decided.
