HD Hyundai Infracore, an affiliate of HD Hyundai Construction Equipment, is showcasing its hydrogen engine technology and development roadmap, which are gaining attention as next-generation power sources.

HD Hyundai Infracore announced on the 25th that it is participating in 'H2 MEET 2024,' the largest domestic hydrogen industry exhibition held at KINTEX from the 25th to the 27th.

At this exhibition, HD Hyundai Infracore is presenting the 11ℓ-class vehicle hydrogen engine 'HX12' used in large trucks and the 22ℓ-class hydrogen engine 'HX22' applied in generator systems, while promoting a range of products that can utilize hydrogen engines.

In particular, the hydrogen engines developed by HD Hyundai Infracore feature optimal performance design, delivering maximum output and torque per displacement that exceed overseas competitors by double-digit percentages. Additionally, they can utilize existing internal combustion engine platforms, making retrofitting of aging vehicles easy.

Moreover, compared to other next-generation power sources such as electric batteries and hydrogen fuel cells, hydrogen engines offer superior cost competitiveness and higher output.

HD Hyundai Infracore is also participating in the 'Tech Talk' held during the exhibition to introduce the current status of hydrogen engine technology development and explain the development roadmap, including future application areas for hydrogen engines.

HD Hyundai Infracore began developing hydrogen engines in 2022 and plans to mass-produce hydrogen engines for trucks starting in the second half of 2025. In 2026, mass production of 11ℓ-class hydrogen engines for power generation will commence, followed by the development of high-output hydrogen engines by 2027 to expand applications to large trucks and high-output special equipment.

Recently, HD Hyundai Infracore won a project for 'Direct Injection Hydrogen Engine Technology Development' commissioned by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT). In collaboration with the Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Germany's FEV, and the University of Michigan in the U.S., they aim to develop a direct injection hydrogen engine by 2027 that improves output and torque by 10-25% compared to the existing port injection method.

In August, they also secured the government's first domestic hydrogen internal combustion engine generator demonstration project commissioned by the Korea Energy Technology Evaluation Institute.

An HD Hyundai Infracore official stated, "Based on continuous technology development and investment, we were able to showcase hydrogen engines nearing commercialization at this exhibition. We will actively develop products applicable to various demand sectors to contribute to the transition to a carbon-neutral society."
