'Gangdong Seonsa Marathon Festival' to be Held at Amsadong Historic Site on the 29th

Gangdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Su-hee) will hold the "2024 Prehistoric Marathon Festival" at the Seoul Amsa-dong Prehistoric Site, the largest prehistoric site in Korea, on the 29th.

Sponsored by Gangdong-gu and organized by the Gangdong-gu Athletics Federation, the "2024 Prehistoric Marathon Festival" is an event held to wish for the successful hosting of the "29th Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival" scheduled for October 11-13, and to promote the Seoul Amsa-dong Prehistoric Site, a representative site of Neolithic culture with a 6,000-year history, both domestically and internationally. Following last year, this year’s registration has also closed early with about 2,500 participants, the maximum number, showing great anticipation from participants.

The marathon event on Sunday, September 29, will start at 9:30 AM from the plaza of the Seoul Amsa-dong Prehistoric Site. Various courses are prepared, ranging from a half course that passes through Amsa Rabbit Tunnel and circles the Hangang Citizen Park before returning to the starting point, to shorter courses of 10 km and 5 km. Participants can enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the Hangang River and experience a fantastic race along the course extending to Gwangnaru Hangang Park and Jamsil Hangang Park.

On the day of the event, from 9:20 AM to 12:10 PM, traffic will be restricted along the marathon course. The restricted sections include the Seoul Amsa-dong Prehistoric Site to Seonsa Elementary School intersection, and the pedestrian overpass in front of the Small City Arts Nine Building to the Rabbit Tunnel entrance intersection. Additionally, the parking lot at the Seoul Amsa-dong Prehistoric Site will be closed from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM on the day of the event.

Mayor Lee Su-hee said, “As autumn approaches, I hope everyone participates in the Prehistoric Marathon Festival to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the Hangang River,” and added, “Please visit the upcoming 29th Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival with your family and friends to create wonderful memories.”
