Meeting of Deputy Heads of Northern Gyeonggi Cities and Counties: "The Millennium Waterway of Bukhangang Achieved Remarkable Results" On the 24th, more than 30 deputy heads of seven cities and counties in the northern Gyeonggi region gathered in Gapyeong-gun for a meeting hosted by Oh Hu-seok, the Deputy Governor for Administration. On the 24th, Gyeonggi Province held the third 'Northern Gyeonggi City and County Deputy Heads Meeting' of the year in Gapyeong-gun, presided over by Oh Hu-seok, the Deputy Governor for Administration. About 30 participants attended, including deputy heads from seven cities and counties in the northern Gyeonggi region.

During the meeting, updates and future plans regarding the Gapyeong-gun Bukhangang Millennium Waterway Development Project were shared, along with discussions on resolving licensing issues related to the waterway pilot boat business.

The Bukhangang Millennium Waterway Development Project is a key initiative of Gapyeong-gun, running from 2020 to 2025, which involves creating a multipurpose plaza and public piers along the Bukhangang River. Private companies will build and operate eco-friendly vessels to attract many tourists.

When operating vessels on the Millennium Waterway, the pilot boats must obtain river occupancy permits from the river management authority under the River Act and then apply for a ferry business license from the province. There was a legal interpretation issue regarding whether Chuncheon-si and Gapyeong-gun, as river management authorities for the Bukhangang route, should receive individual permits or if Gapyeong-gun should receive a combined permit.

In response, the province sought legal advice from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Environment and held several meetings, ultimately concluding that Chuncheon-si and Gapyeong-gun should obtain individual permits. The pilot boat ferry business licenses were then smoothly issued accordingly.

Oh Hu-seok, Deputy Governor for Administration of Gyeonggi Province, stated, “We ask the cities and counties to show great interest and cooperation in the province’s key projects,” and added, “Please make thorough preparations to ensure the successful hosting of the 2025 Provincial Sports Festival and the 2026 Provincial Life Sports Grand Festival in Gapyeong-gun.”
