Suncheon Garden Workation Selected as an Excellent Case of 'Gohyang Ollae' by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety

Awarded 'Best Excellence' at Regional Revitalization Outstanding Project Presentation
Education and Training Conducted for Public Institution Employees

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 24th that it was selected as the best local government in the workation sector at the 2024 Regional Revitalization Excellent Project Presentation held at Daegu EXCO and received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award.

At the awards ceremony and presentation held that day, among the 33 local governments promoting the 2023-2024 Hometown Olrae Project, eight excellent local governments were selected by category, and the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award was presented along with a case presentation session to spread best practices to all local governments.

Suncheon Garden Workation attracted about 10,000 visitors within five months of its opening with differentiated content that combines attractive accommodations and office environments set against the backdrop of the National Garden, a representative tourist destination and urban landmark, along with a high-quality garden culture. It was evaluated as having greatly contributed to the activation of stay-type tourism, the influx of living population, and the promotion of local consumption.

In particular, unlike other local governments where accommodations, shared workspaces, and experience spaces are separated, it was highly praised for providing a workation environment where work, lodging, rest, and tourism are all possible, and for actively encouraging continuous local visits and urban inflow through the provision of the Suncheon Pass, a tourist site free pass usable until the end of the year.

A city official said, “As workation is gaining attention as a key keyword to respond to population extinction, we are promoting a workation hub project utilizing nearby facilities to expand it regionally.”

He also said, “We plan to present a new workation model by promoting a public-type product combined with education, training, and welfare systems for public institution employees whose workation environment is poor compared to companies.”
