Ministry of Industry and KOTRA, Export Consultation and Seminar
Supporting Our Companies to Strengthen Global Competitiveness
Seeking Cooperation with Major Japanese Semiconductor Companies
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KOTRA announced on the 25th that they will hold an export consultation meeting and seminar in conjunction with the local event 'Kyushu Semiconductor Industry Exhibition' to target the Japanese semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) market.
The 1st Kyushu Semiconductor Industry Exhibition, held over two days starting today in Fukuoka, Japan, is the first semiconductor industry specialized exhibition in the Kyushu region. Major Japanese semiconductor companies such as Mitsubishi Electric, Tokyo Ohka Kogyo (TOK), and Renesas Electronics are participating in large numbers.
KOTRA, together with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Fukuoka, will set up consultation booths at the exhibition site and hold a semiconductor supply chain entry support consultation meeting for two days. About seven promising Korean semiconductor SoBuJang companies and about 20 Japanese global semiconductor buyers will participate in this consultation. Even after the event, follow-up projects will continue to support ongoing local marketing for promising domestic companies.
On the second day, the 26th, an investment attraction seminar will be held in cooperation with the Chungbuk Free Economic Zone Authority (CBFEZ). The seminar will present cooperation plans for the Korea-Japan semiconductor industry and cases of collaboration between the two countries to potential investors, and an investor relations (IR) session for participating companies will also be conducted. It is expected that about 100 buyers and institutional officials related to Kyushu semiconductors will attend.
Kyushu is the region where Japan's largest semiconductor industry cluster has been established. Recently, Taiwan's TSMC established a joint venture JASM (Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing) in Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu, with leading Japanese semiconductor companies, leading to a series of investments by Japanese semiconductor firms.
Park Geon-chan, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Fukuoka, said, "Kyushu, known as the 'Silicon Island' since the 1970s, is now the time for Korean semiconductor companies with excellent technology to enter and create synergy in earnest," adding, "We hope that semiconductor industry cooperation between the two countries will lead to mutual co-growth."
Kim Samsik, Head of KOTRA Japan Regional Headquarters, said, "This exhibition is an opportunity to discover strategic partnerships for Korean semiconductor companies in the Japanese semiconductor market beyond simple business consultations," and added, "We will actively support strengthening close cooperation between companies of both countries and enhancing the global competitiveness of our companies."
