Yangsan City in Gyeongnam has unveiled a renewal plan for the Eungsang area in East Yangsan, presenting a blueprint for the future city of Eungsang.
On the 24th, Yangsan City held a press conference and residents' briefing session at the Wongsang Culture and Sports Center gymnasium to present the vision of "Wongsang Renewal, Urban Re-creation Toward the Future."
On the 24th, Yangsan City held a press conference and a resident briefing session at the Eungsang Culture and Sports Center Gymnasium to announce the vision of “Eungsang Renewal, Urban Recreation for the Future.” The event was attended by over 500 people, including provincial and city council members, members of the Citizens’ Integration Committee, representatives of local organizations, residents, and journalists.
This event, held in Eungsang for the first time in about a year and a half since the announcement of the “Eungsang Hoiyagang Renaissance” vision in March last year, featured Mayor Na Dongyeon personally detailing the progress of key projects in the Eungsang area. He also explained the implementation plans for the four main areas of “Eungsang Renewal”: administration, transportation, environment, and urban development.
First, regarding the “Eungsang Hoiyagang Renaissance,” he explained the progress by section of the Hoiyagang riverside walkway maintenance, the remodeling of Oriso Park scheduled for completion next month, the river disaster prevention project being carried out in five sections, the Jujin Bulbit Park and riverside road project aiming for completion in 2026, and the status of the Yongdang Historical Site Cultural Tourism Belt master plan currently being developed.
Next, regarding “Eungsang Renewal,” the plan was categorized into four key themes: ▲Convenient new administration for citizens’ happiness ▲Smooth communication with a new wide-area transportation network ▲A healthy new environment where nature breathes ▲A multifunctional new city for an enriched life. He explained the required budget, implementation schedule, and project details, outlining the overall framework for the future city of Eungsang.
In particular, regarding new city development in the urban sector, he highlighted that the Seochang area has been included as a potential target for designation as a “Special Maintenance Zone for Aging Planned Cities,” a project the government is promoting through special legislation. He presented a roadmap for establishing and approving the basic maintenance plan for aging planned cities prior to the designation of the special maintenance zone.
Yangsan City plans to prepare a draft of the basic plan through a one-year study next year, followed by administrative procedures such as consultations with relevant ministries, collecting opinions from residents and the city council, and committee deliberations, aiming for approval of the basic plan by the end of 2026. The basic direction envisioned by Yangsan City for the Seochang area maintenance project is to create a pleasant residential environment and generate future-oriented jobs.
Mayor Na Dongyeon emphasized, “Eungsang Renewal goes beyond simply improving physical spaces; it will have a positive impact on the economy, society, and environment as a whole, and will lay the foundation for revitalizing the local community and sustainable development. Sharing this vision with residents is an expression of our city’s determination and commitment to achieving real results, and above all, it is a request for the active participation of residents, which is most important in the process.”
