Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 24th that it will newly launch the ‘University Without Walls, Seodaemun Happiness Campus’ project to support lifelong learning for residents in collaboration with nine universities located within the district.
The project name embodies the idea of ‘realizing Seodaemun-gu as a single campus.’ The district provides the budget, while the universities support campus spaces and professional personnel so that the universities can serve as a ‘resident lifelong learning platform.’
Seodaemun-gu is home to a total of nine universities: Methodist Theological University, Kyonggi University, Digital Seoul Culture & Arts University, Myongji University, Myongji College, Seoul Women’s College of Nursing, Yonsei University, Ewha Womans University, and Chugye University for the Arts, which is the highest number among all basic local governments nationwide.
The district plans to utilize this educational infrastructure to allow any resident to take specialized courses at any of the nine universities. By December this year, a total of 144 lectures across 20 courses on topics such as physical education, health knowledge, culture and arts, psychology, humanities, job linkage, artificial intelligence, companion dogs, real estate, and citizenship cultivation will be held in classrooms and practice rooms within the nine universities.
Each program can accommodate 50 to 100 participants, allowing a total of 1,260 residents to participate free of charge. Not only Seodaemun-gu residents but also employees and students within the district can apply by referring to the announcements on the Seodaemun-gu Lifelong Learning Portal.
Mayor Lee Seongheon said, “We will continue to expand educational programs utilizing the universities’ professional resources so that residents can acquire knowledge and information suited to the changing times and enhance their happiness through learning in daily life.”
