"Peeking Inside the House Through Open Windows"
Up to 5-6 Times a Month
A middle-aged man with no prior acquaintance has been secretly peeping into a house where only women live through the gaps in the windows for several years, according to a report.
On the 23rd, JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang' reported that Ms. A, a woman in her 20s living with her mother and two younger sisters, moved into a first-floor unit of a two-story villa in Dong-gu, Daegu Metropolitan City, seven years ago. However, she began experiencing strange incidents three years ago. During the summer at that time, her younger sister came out to the living room at dawn to drink water and made eye contact with a man peering into the house through the security bars. Ms. A said, "It was hot, so I slept with the window open, and he looked inside through the open window gap."
The man, who appeared to be in his 40s to 50s, continued to appear late at night, at dawn, or early in the morning, peeping into the living room of Ms. A's house through the window and then casually leaving. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) installed by Ms. A to gather evidence captured the man's behavior in full. The man peeped into the house up to five to six times a month. According to Ms. A, the man seemed to know that only women lived in the house.
Ms. A's family eventually covered the windows with plastic shields, but the man found gaps and continued to spy through them. Ms. A claimed, "Around November last year, I once encountered the man in the alley. When I asked him, 'Why are you peeping into the house?' he denied wrongdoing, saying, 'I did nothing wrong,' and ran away."
They reported the incidents to the police multiple times, but nothing changed. Ms. A said, "I have reported to the police at least ten times over three years," adding, "They said there was nothing they could do since there was no direct harm. They promised to increase patrols, but the incidents continue." She continued, "I live with the windows almost closed," and expressed frustration and injustice, saying, "Despite taking all possible measures, the man keeps coming."
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "It's creepy and scary. I hope measures are taken before it escalates to the worst case so the family can be free from fear," "It's sad because home should be a comfortable place to rest," and "Shouldn't the man be warned or disciplined?"
