Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, is strengthening cooperation with Charlton Brown, a specialized childcare teacher training institution in Australia, and the prestigious private school John Paul College, while promoting the establishment of overseas schools within the Free Economic Zone and the advancement of an education development special zone.

On the 23rd (local time), Mayor Lee signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Charlton Brown, a specialized childcare teacher training institution and prestigious vocational education school, in Brisbane, Australia, laying the groundwork for building a “digital-based integrated support system for Neulbom and early childhood care,” which is the broad framework of the education development special zone.

Charlton Brown is a vocational education school under the NIET Group, which excels in training childcare staff and operates five departments offering vocational education in early childhood education, elderly care, IT, business, and more. It has campuses in six locations including Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Sandybay in Australia.

Goyang Special City and Charlton Brown agreed to collaborate for educational development through ▷establishing communication channels for educational advancement ▷promoting human exchange programs such as training programs for daycare teachers to benchmark and enhance friendship ▷supporting the establishment of Charlton Brown’s Korean branch within Goyang Special City’s Free Economic Zone ▷cooperating to provide online English learning content related to Goyang Special City’s education development special zone.

Troy Yue, CEO of Charlton Brown, said, “We hope to establish a branch of Charlton Brown in Goyang City to apply distinctive educational programs in Korea and look forward to meeting teachers and students in Goyang.”

Prior to this, Mayor Lee visited John Paul College, a prestigious private school in Brisbane, Australia, and met with Principal Belinda Guerra. John Paul College operates three schools: Childcare (equivalent to Korean daycare, kindergarten, and elementary school), Secondary School (middle and high school), and International School.

The international cooperation officer of John Paul College stated, “Once Goyang Special City’s Free Economic Zone is confirmed, we plan to establish John Paul College’s elementary school and enable academic programs linked with Australia.”

Following the UK’s King’s College and University of Birmingham, and Australia’s Charlton Brown, the establishment of the elementary school proposed by John Paul College will position Goyang City as a national education hub surpassing Gangnam’s top school districts. Premier League player Ki Sung-yueng and actress Gong Hyo-jin are alumni of John Paul College.

Mayor Lee also visited the Q1 Tower, the tallest building in Australia located in Gold Coast City, received briefings from Gold Coast’s international exchange officials, and discussed ways to strengthen friendly cooperative relations between the two cities. He extended a letter of invitation to Tom Tate, Mayor of Gold Coast, for the Goyang International Flower Expo to be held next year.
