Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 24th that Mayor Park Dongsik visited the Busan Regional Construction and Management Administration of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to urgently address the serious traffic issues on National Route 3.

Sacheon Mayor Park Dongsik Visits Busan Regional Office of Land and Infrastructure to Address Traffic Issues Mayor Dongsik Park is visiting the Busan Regional Construction and Management Administration to request the prompt commencement of construction for the Sanam~Jeongdong national highway alternative bypass road.

Emphasizing the importance of expanding transportation and logistics infrastructure following the establishment of the Aerospace Administration, he explained the necessity of the “Sanam-Jeongdong National Route Alternative Bypass Road,” which is in the final stages of detailed design.

The Sanam-Jeongdong National Route Alternative Bypass Road is a newly constructed 4.1 km, four-lane road connecting Wolseong-ri in Sanam-myeon and Daegok-ri in Jeongdong-myeon to alleviate traffic congestion in the Sacheon-eup area. The project cost is 167 billion KRW, fully funded by the national government.

Currently, the Sacheon-Namhae section of National Route 3 has exceeded its optimal traffic capacity, resulting in severe chronic traffic congestion during rush hours and on weekends.

In particular, with the completion of the National Aviation Industrial Complex and the opening of the Yeosu-Namhae Undersea Tunnel expected to increase logistics and traffic volume, the establishment of the alternative bypass road has become urgently necessary.

The second phase of the Sanam-Jeongdong National Route Alternative Bypass Road project, which is the Sacheon-Jinju Jeongchon section, has also been proposed for inclusion in the 6th National Road and Local Road Five-Year Plan, with preliminary feasibility results on its viability to be announced in the second half of 2025.

Meanwhile, Sacheon City stated that once the first and second phase projects are completed, they will replace National Route 3, providing improved transportation services to local residents and users through the dispersion of traffic and logistics.

Mayor Park Dongsik said, “We will maintain close cooperation with Gyeongnam Province and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to ensure the flawless promotion of the project, both for the early commencement of the already confirmed 5th National Road and Local Road Five-Year Plan and for the adoption of the Sacheon section in the upcoming 6th plan.”
