Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 24th that it will promote the "School Manager Pilot Project" to expand the opening of school sports facilities such as gymnasiums and playgrounds, allowing local residents to comfortably enjoy sports and leisure activities close to their homes.

The School Manager project is a program that opens school gymnasiums and playgrounds to residents on Saturdays and Sundays when there are no classes, and assigns school managers to safely manage the school sports facilities.

The main roles of the school manager include verifying the identity of facility reservation users, controlling access of outsiders, supervising user activities, and inspecting facilities after opening hours. The project costs, including hiring school managers and user liability insurance, will be shared equally by Gangbuk-gu and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.

The district office is responsible for hiring, dispatching, and operating school managers, as well as subscribing to facility liability insurance, while the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will encourage school participation by providing incentives to schools that open their facilities. To this end, the district office signed a "Memorandum of Understanding for the Promotion of Opening School Sports Facilities" with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on the 19th.

In addition, the district is implementing various support projects to promote the opening of school sports facilities. It has supported the purchase of sports equipment, facility repair costs, and facility management labor costs for schools that open their facilities, and gives preferential support to open schools when selecting school education space innovation projects.

Mayor Lee Soon-hee stated, "By dispatching school managers to schools that found it burdensome to open their facilities, we hope to reduce the burden on schools and satisfy residents' thirst for leisure spaces," and added, "Gangbuk-gu will continue to actively support schools participating in facility opening as long as students' safety and educational activities are not compromised."
