A magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred at around 8:14 a.m. on the 24th in the southern waters of the Izu Islands, Japan.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency and others, a tsunami advisory was issued around 8:20 a.m. on the same day for the Izu Islands and the Ogasawara Islands due to this earthquake. The maximum tsunami height was estimated to be about 1 meter. Local media warned that in some locations, tsunamis higher than the estimates could strike.


The epicenter of this earthquake was identified near the coast of Torishima. The focal depth was estimated to be 10 km.
