Popera Performance and Global Food Festival
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 24th that the ‘Bangsin Sakae Festival’ will be held at Bangsin Traditional Market in Banghwa-dong from 6 PM to 10 PM on the 27th and 28th.
This event was organized to promote consumption in traditional markets and revitalize the local economy. More than 100 kinds of food and various attractions such as popera performances are prepared.
From 6 PM, about 40 stores will showcase Bangsin Market’s unique specialty foods such as spicy pig’s feet, herb fried chicken, fermented skate salad, and yukjeon (pan-fried beef). Additionally, global foods like Vietnamese spring rolls and ch? gi?, as well as highballs targeting the MZ generation, will be available. When ordering food worth more than 10,000 KRW, one draft beer or highball will be provided free of charge.
The opening ceremony will be held at 5:50 PM on the 27th at the market’s special stage. Following the opening declaration and welcome speech, stage performances will take place. A variety of attractions are prepared, including popera filled with the autumn atmosphere, a citizen singing contest featuring merchants and local artists, a street parade by a carnival mask-wearing performance group, and Zumba dance by residents. Busking performances are expected to attract the interest and response of younger audiences.
The district office has produced an information leaflet for visitors’ convenience and will also provide a ‘raffle event’ where visitors receive Bangsin Market exclusive gift certificates, as well as a ‘photo zone’ to create lasting memories.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “This event was prepared to breathe new life into traditional markets,” and added, “We hope everyone enjoys various foods and attractions in the cool early autumn breeze and creates unforgettable memories.”
Meanwhile, on the 28th, visitors can enjoy the food without the performances. For more details, please contact Bangsin Traditional Market or the Bangsin Traditional Market Cultural Tourism Market Development Project Group.
