Sequential Meetings of Minister-Level Officials from OSTP, NSF, and FCC

Minister Yu Sang-im of the Ministry of Science and ICT solidified Korea-US science, technology, and digital cooperation through meetings with the heads of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on the 23rd (local time).

According to the Ministry of Science and ICT, during his visit to the US, Minister Yu met with Arati Prabhakar, Director of the White House OSTP, and exchanged views on close cooperation in establishing global AI norms and governance, the potential use of AI in research areas such as bio and materials, and the need to build related infrastructure including high-performance computing.


Furthermore, they agreed to cooperate more closely in multilateral cooperation channels as well as expanding joint research and personnel exchanges to enhance bilateral quantum science and technology cooperation.


During the meeting with Sethuraman Panchanathan, Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF), they discussed holding the "Korea-US Semiconductor Forum." Minister Yu also proposed promoting joint research projects in the quantum field by having both organizations provide additional international cooperation funds to researchers from each country. They agreed to closely collaborate through the Global Centers Program to produce excellent research outcomes necessary for bioeconomy innovation.


In the meeting with Jessica Rosenworcel, Chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Minister Yu and Chairwoman Rosenworcel agreed to continue cooperating to promote 6th generation (6G) frequency research and the global expansion of Open RAN, a core technology of next-generation networks.


Minister Yu emphasized, "The United States is the top priority partner in securing competitiveness in strategic technologies through global R&D promotion," and stated, "We will communicate more closely with US government agencies to ensure the success of Korea-US cooperative projects and further strengthen the Korea-US science, technology, and digital alliance."
