"Hongdae Red Road Wakjjak Jikkeol!"... Mapo-gu 'Red Road Festival' Held

From September 28 to 29, Hongdae Red Road will be filled with food, sights, and fun
Busking Festival 2024, held for the first time this year, expects success with 601 teams registered

Mapo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Gang-su) will hold the ‘2024 Red Road Festival’ over two days on September 28 and 29 in the Hongdae Red Road area.


The Red Road Festival, which was first held in May 2023, received great response and is now celebrating its second year.


This year’s festival will take place along the entire Red Road route (R1~R6), offering a variety of performances and programs to provide visitors to Mapo-gu with diverse entertainment.


The festival kicks off on the 28th at 3 PM with a dynamic pre-performance by the award-winning teams of the ‘2024 B-Boy World, Red Road International Street Dance Festival’ on the special stage at Red Road R6.


Following this, the opening ceremony, hosted by singer Jo Jeong-min at 4 PM, will reflect on the past two years of Red Road’s journey and share the significance of Red Road’s creation through a calligraphy performance.


The subsequent celebratory performances will feature popular singers such as Bultaneun F4, Jo Jeong-min, and Na Sang-do, delivering dazzling stages.


Beyond performances, the entire Red Road area will be filled with various attractions and activities.

At the R1 Plaza, there will be a food zone and resting area where visitors can enjoy the autumn night atmosphere in the city, feeling as if they are camping with family, friends, or loved ones while comfortably relaxing and enjoying the festival’s excitement.


In the R2 section, busker performances will take place alongside a flea market selling various goods, providing tourists with a wide range of sights.


Additionally, in the R4 section, experiential programs such as K-Culture activities and canvas painting will be available for tourists to participate in directly.


Here, K-Beauty experience booths including hair, makeup, and personal color services will be offered, along with Korean culture programs for foreign tourists such as learning K-Pop dance and making traditional accessories.


Finally, in the R5 street busking area, various performances including bands and classical music will be held, along with participatory programs like face painting and caricature drawing for tourists.


On September 29, the ‘Red Road Busker Festival 2024’ will be held for the first time at the Red Road R1 section.


This festival attracted high interest with 601 teams (1,718 participants) from 14 cities and provinces nationwide applying for the preliminary round.


The top 35 teams selected through the first round of judging will compete in a fierce second round at 12 PM on the 29th on the Red Road R1 stage for a chance to advance to the finals. The final 8 teams passing the second round will perform in front of the audience visiting Red Road from 6 PM on the same day to determine the winner.


The total prize money amounts to 24.4 million KRW, with awards including one grand prize team (10 million KRW), one excellence award team (5 million KRW), two outstanding and two popularity award teams (1 million KRW each), and two participation award teams (500,000 KRW each), all receiving certificates and prize money.


In particular, the finalists will receive additional support for album production, making the Red Road Busker Festival a stepping stone for passionate and talented performing artists to realize their dreams.


Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “I hope many people gather at Red Road, which has become the center of cultural tourism not only in Mapo-gu but in Korea, to enjoy various performances and experiences and create precious memories.”
