Gyeonggi Province gave final approval on the 23rd for the revision of the Urban Regeneration Activation Plan for Jungang-dong, Yeoju City, following a review by the Gyeonggi Urban Regeneration Committee.
The Urban Regeneration Activation Plan is an implementation plan for promoting urban regeneration projects. According to the Special Act on the Promotion and Support of Urban Regeneration, the city or county, as the strategic plan establishment authority, formulates the plan, and Gyeonggi Province approves it.
Jungang-dong in Yeoju City has grown centered around the Namhan River and established itself as an administrative and commercial hub. However, recently, with new town developments, the entry of large marts and outlets, the competitiveness of the old downtown area has rapidly weakened, making it urgent to improve the residential environment and restore the local community to enhance residents' quality of life.
The Urban Regeneration Activation Plan for Jungang-dong, Yeoju City was first announced in February 2022. Through this revision of the activation plan, urban regeneration projects will be actively promoted in an area of 200,000㎡ around 180-11 Hadong, Yeoju City, including the establishment of base facilities and street environment improvements.
The main contents of the revised activation plan include ▲ a complex development project utilizing the former Jeil Market site and the creation of a public parking lot ▲ Sejong Market themed street for revitalizing the local commercial district ▲ and the Jungangtong commercial district revitalization project.
Additionally, projects to improve the pedestrian environment using local resources such as the creation of a travel station for tourists, Namhan River terrace, Yeoju Itgil, and Suseon Street will also be promoted.
Seo Sang-gyu, head of the Regeneration Management Team at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We hope that the urban regeneration project in Jungang-dong, Yeoju City will be promptly promoted through this plan revision and transform into an even better city to live in."
