A post about a husband expressing dissatisfaction online after his wife received 2.2 million won for cooking at her in-laws' house during the Chuseok holiday has become a hot topic.
Recently, a man named A shared his experience during Chuseok on an online community. A, who revealed he has been married for three years, explained, "My wife originally said she wouldn't go to her in-laws' house, and we fought so much that we even talked about going separately. But since she is the youngest of four sisters and one brother, she couldn't avoid going, so I begged her to go, and she finally agreed to go once."
After arriving at her in-laws' house, the wife prepared food from two days before Chuseok until lunch on the day of Chuseok. A said, "I saw how incredibly hard and exhausting it was for her the whole time she was cooking," adding, "I tried to help, but she refused, so I couldn't assist."
Later, around 2 p.m. on Chuseok day, the couple left for the wife's parents' house. A said, "At that time, my parents gave her 1 million won, and my sisters each contributed 300,000 won, totaling 1.2 million won, so altogether she received 2.2 million won." He asked, "Is there anyone who gets paid like this after working for two days?" He continued, "I thought it was a bit excessive and brought it up, but my parents and sisters gave me a stern look and said, 'Then will you do it? Can you do it properly?' so I couldn't respond."
He added, "Since then, my wife happily goes to her in-laws' house every holiday," and lamented, "I told her that since the money comes from my family because she married me, she should morally give it to me, but she ignored me and even told her parents, making things awkward." He then asked, "Isn't it reasonable for me to ask for some of it? Even if not half, I think I contribute 60-70%."
Netizens who read the story mostly reacted negatively toward A. They criticized him with comments like, "If you feel stingy about the money your wife receives, then don't go," "The whole family is giving that money so she can live with you, so just keep quiet," and "Do you want the money without doing the work?" Some even said, "I’m jealous to have in-laws like that; I wonder where I can meet them."
