Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 23rd that it will accept applications for the 'Opportunity Income Support Project for Farmers and Fishermen' from the 25th until October 18th.

The 'Opportunity Income Support Project for Farmers and Fishermen' was established to respond to the risk of disappearance of rural farming and fishing communities and to provide compensation and opportunities to farmers and fishermen who contribute to creating social value. This project is separate from the basic income for farmers.

Specific farmers, including young farmers and fishermen under the age of 50, those who have returned to farming or fishing within the last 5 years, environmentally friendly agriculture and animal welfare farms, livestock happiness farms, and those operating premium seafood, will receive a monthly opportunity income of 150,000 KRW paid in local currency.

Applicants must have an address in Pocheon City at the time of application and have lived continuously for 2 years or non-continuously for 5 years within Gyeonggi Province. They must also own farmland in Pocheon City and have been actively engaged in farming for at least 1 continuous year, or have farmed continuously for 3 years or more on farmland within Gyeonggi Province.

Only those registered as business owners or farmers other than the business owner in agricultural, fishery, or forestry management entities can apply. If funds are received through fraudulent means, recovery actions will be taken and applications will be restricted for 5 years.

Additionally, those who have fraudulently received direct payments and those with comprehensive income outside of agriculture exceeding 37 million KRW are excluded from eligibility.

Applications can be submitted by visiting the administrative welfare center in the applicant's resident registration area or online through the integrated support system for opportunity income for farmers and fishermen.

The city plans to select and review applicants and pay 450,000 KRW, covering three months from October to December, in the form of Pocheon Love Gift Certificates, a local currency, by the end of December.

A Pocheon City official said, "We hope that the Opportunity Income Support Project for Farmers and Fishermen, which is being implemented for the first time this year, will help improve the quality of life for farmers and fishermen who are responding to the risk of disappearance of rural areas and agriculture."
