Inspection of 7,873 Electric Vehicle Chargers at 720 Locations by Year-End
Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will hold a residents' briefing session on electric vehicle charging facilities on the 26th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the main auditorium on the 2nd floor of the Community Center. In addition, it plans to inspect all 720 charging facilities by the end of this year.
As of August this year, there are 80,474 electric vehicles registered in Seoul, with 14,290 registered in Gangnam-gu, ranking first among autonomous districts (17.7%). However, the compliance rate for mandatory installation of electric vehicle charging facilities in public use facilities and apartment complexes has not exceeded 60%, so the charging infrastructure is still insufficient. Moreover, due to recent electric vehicle fire incidents, concerns about charging facilities have increased, prompting this briefing session to provide accurate information to residents.
The briefing session will include ▲ expert lectures ▲ fire prevention and response training ▲ explanations from charging equipment suppliers. Two professors from the Department of Future Automotive Studies and the Department of Fire and Disaster Prevention will each lecture on the necessity of electric vehicles and charging facility deployment, as well as misconceptions and response strategies regarding electric vehicle fires.
Following this, the Gangnam Fire Station will provide guidance on evacuation procedures in case of electric vehicle fires. Finally, six companies selected through public announcements, including LG Electronics, GS Chargebee, and Hanwha Solutions, will provide detailed explanations about chargers and hold a Q&A session with residents. The briefing session is open not only to facility officials but also to any residents interested in electric vehicles.
The district plans to inspect 7,873 units across 720 electric vehicle charging facilities in public use facilities and apartment complexes by the end of the year. Based on the results of the full survey, it will build a database of electric vehicle charging facilities, share it with relevant departments and agencies for each facility, and promote systematic safety management.
District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, “To prevent damage from electric vehicle fires, it is important to strengthen the safety of charging facilities and improve fire response capabilities,” adding, “Through this briefing session, we will alleviate residents’ concerns about electric vehicles and make every effort to ensure the safety of charging facilities through thorough inspections.”
