Proposal to Disclose the Composition of the 'Beomminju Danilhwa Hoeui'
Professor Kim Kyung-beom of Seoul National University, who withdrew his intention to run in the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education by-election, has joined Professor Bang Hyun-seok of Chung-Ang University’s Creative Writing Department in support and has joined the candidate’s campaign as the head of the election committee. Professor Bang proposed the formation of another unification body within the progressive camp.
On the morning of the 23rd, Professor Bang held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office and said, "From now on, we will welcome Professor Kim as the head of the election committee and do our best to reflect Professor Kim’s educational philosophy and policies in the innovation of Seoul’s education."
Earlier, Professor Kim had participated in the progressive camp’s unification promotion organization, the '2024 Seoul Democratic Progressive Superintendent Promotion Committee (Promotion Committee),' but announced his withdrawal as a preliminary candidate on the 19th.
On that day, Professor Kim criticized, "The Seoul Democratic Progressive Superintendent Promotion Committee ignored the candidates’ consensus and proceeded with unification according to the original plan of the Promotion Committee," adding, "The purpose of the unification process is not merely election engineering but to create new values for progressive education."
Professor Bang proposed the formation of a 'Pan-Democratic Unification Conference' within the progressive camp. He emphasized, "It must be a unification that allows broad participation from citizens," and added, "We will hold a 'Policy Forum for Historical Justice and the Defense of School Democracy,' which involves over 3 million progressive YouTube subscribers, and select a unified candidate by asking citizens’ opinions through feasible methods such as voting by a citizen jury."
Together with Professor Kim, he announced key pledges including ▲ Establishing Creative Life Schools ▲ Promoting One School, One Historical Justice School ▲ Realizing a Violence-Free School Democracy ▲ Organizing School Support Systems ▲ Restoring School Communities.
