"Oil-Skimming Ladle" Wins Top Prize at National Student Science Invention Contest
Student Kim Taeyoung Says, "I Want to Become a Scientist Who Changes the World for the Better"
Pohang Mayor Lee Kangdeok invited and encouraged Kim Taehyung, a third-year student at Singwang Middle School, who became a topic of conversation after winning the Presidential Award at the 45th National Student Science Invention Competition.
Kim Taehyung, a third-year student at Shingwang Middle School who won the Presidential Award at the National Student Science Invention Competition, is taking a commemorative photo with Mayor Lee Gangdeok on the 20th.
On the 20th, at the City Hall's External Cooperation Office, Mayor Lee listened to Kim Taehyung, his parents, and his supervising teacher about the process of submitting the invention, and congratulated the student for achieving this honor with outstanding creativity.
The National Student Science Invention Competition has been held since 1979 to encourage students' inventive activities. This year, 11,589 students participated, and after regional preliminaries, 300 advanced to the national finals.
Kim Taehyung submitted the "Belly Fat Catcher Until 100! Oil-Skimming Ladle," a ladle that can remove oil from oily broth dishes, and achieved the remarkable feat of winning the highest honor, the Presidential Award.
The invention applies the principle of the traditional "Gyeyeongbae" cup, which uses a siphon mechanism that empties the cup when filled to the brim. When scooping broth and oil, the water at the bottom continues to drain, leaving only the oil layer in the ladle.
Kim Taehyung said, "Although there were some trial and error during the submission process, achieving good results has given me confidence. I want to become a scientist who takes an interest in a wide range of fields and helps change the world for the better."
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "I applaud the efforts of the student and the supervising teacher, who continuously researched with creative ideas to solve everyday inconveniences and achieved such great results. We will do our best to create an educational environment where students can fully develop their talents and achieve even more in various fields."
