The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 23rd that, in collaboration with Busan Metropolitan City and Busan Ilbo, it will hold the "18th World Ocean Forum 2024" at the Lotte Hotel Busan from the 24th to the 26th.

This forum will be held under the theme "Ocean Intelligence with AI." It will begin with keynote speeches by Michida Yutaka, Chair of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), and Baek Jun-ho, CEO of FuriosaAI, followed by a total of 12 sessions. The forum will feature over 90 domestic and international experts from 10 countries across all marine sectors, including marine bio, fisheries, shipping and ports, and shipbuilding, participating as presenters and discussants. Videos of the entire event, including the opening ceremony, will be uploaded later on the official website and YouTube.

Since its inception in 2007, the World Ocean Forum, now in its 18th edition, has served as a platform where stakeholders from academia, industry, and the public sector related to marine affairs gather to discuss major marine issues and seek solutions. Over the past 17 years, it has established itself as a leading international academic event in the marine field, with 987 speakers from 51 countries and more than 67,000 attendees participating.

Kang Do-hyung, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, stated, "I hope this forum will spark creative discussions on the direction of utilizing artificial intelligence technology in the marine and fisheries sectors," adding, "We will continue to work with academia and industry to become a technological powerhouse in marine and fisheries and to create future growth engines."
