Busan Urban Corporation Implements 24-Hour Disaster Response Duty in Preparation for Heavy Rain Alerts

Emergency Disaster Safety Response for Two Days on the 20th and 21st

Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC) implemented 24-hour disaster prevention duty in accordance with the disaster safety management crisis response system, following the issuance of a heavy rain advisory in the Busan area from the afternoon of the 20th.

According to the Busan Meteorological Administration, as of 9:30 p.m. on the 21st, when the heavy rain advisory was lifted, cumulative precipitation reached 425mm in Gadeokdo, 422mm in Busanjingu, 421mm in Sahagu, 419.5mm in Geumjeonggu, and 365mm in Haeundaegu.

BMC establishes a disaster safety management plan every year to ensure prompt and efficient response and recovery measures in case of various disasters and safety accidents, and operates a comprehensive disaster safety situation room during crisis stages such as the issuance of weather advisories.

In addition, last year, BMC introduced the Digital Smart Safety Management Platform (SMP) to strengthen two-way communication between the headquarters' comprehensive disaster safety situation room and worksites, and to establish a disaster prevention and rapid response system, which was actively utilized during this disaster prevention duty.

Through real-time monitoring screens of the SMP's site CCTV control, BMC monitored heavy rain conditions and damage status in real time at worksites and management facilities, and responded immediately to emergencies, minimizing damage to worksites and facilities.

Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, stated, "As the ground has been weakened by the torrential rain, there are concerns about additional damage such as the collapse of steep slopes and retaining walls. We will remain vigilant, thoroughly inspect BMC's disaster prevention system, worksites, and management facilities, and do our utmost to protect the lives and safety of citizens."
