Daejeon City Launches 'Kkumdori Taxi' on the 6th
2,000 Taxis to Operate as 'Kkumdori Taxi' Until the 27th
Daejeon City has received positive reactions from netizens following the launch of the 'Kkumdori Taxi' featuring Kkumdori.
Earlier, on the 6th, Daejeon City held the launch ceremony for the 'Kkumdori Taxi.' The 'Kkumdori Taxi' applies the design of Daejeon's representative character, the Kkumdori family, to the taxi's rooftop sign and side wrapping. It is scheduled to be installed on 2,000 private taxis from the 19th to the 27th. The rooftop sign was designed to depict Kkumdori riding a UFO, symbolizing the advanced science city.
This is the first case of applying a city-representative character to taxis in Daejeon. The city expects that once installation is complete, the night streets of Daejeon will look as if numerous Kkumdori spaceships are flying around.
Netizens' responses to the 'Kkumdori Taxi' have been positive. Comments included, "The Kkumdori character is very well made," "Daejeon citizens must be happy. I'm jealous," "I hope Daejeon thrives even more. It was too disappointing to just buy bread and leave," "I will take a taxi to buy bread at Seongsimdang," "Daejeon is constantly developing," and "I went on a trip to Daejeon and bought a Kkumdori keyring before going to Seongsimdang," showing a variety of reactions.
Daejeon City is one of the most proactive local governments recently in promoting the region using its symbolic character. A themed subway train decorated with the Kkumdori family characters is also in operation.
Meanwhile, Daejeon was once called a 'No-fun City' because, aside from the local iconic bakery 'Seongsimdang,' there was nowhere to go. However, interest in Daejeon is growing as the city successfully concluded the 'Daejeon Midnight Festival' last month and plans to hold the Daejeon Bread Festival on the 28th and 29th.
In fact, according to the Korea Corporate Reputation Research Institute's analysis of brand reputation big data for 85 cities nationwide from July 29 to August 29, Daejeon recorded a brand reputation index of 3,165,370, surpassing Seoul and Busan to rank first nationwide. Following its consecutive three-month first place in the 'Korea Metropolitan Government Brand Reputation,' Daejeon also achieved the best results in the 'Korea City Brand Reputation' competition among 85 cities nationwide.
