Various Festivals and Events Including Yangsan Sapnyang Culture Festival
Yangsan City in Gyeongnam is set to host a variety of festivals and cultural arts events this autumn, including its representative festival, the Yangsan Sapryang Cultural Festival.
The Yangsan Sapryang Cultural Festival, now in its 34th year, is the city's premier comprehensive cultural and arts festival. It will take place for three days from October 4th to 6th at the Yangsancheon riverside and the Yangsan Sports Complex area.
This year’s festival aims to revive the meaning of ‘Sapryang,’ Yangsan’s old name, by featuring performances and exhibition booths themed around Park Jesang, a loyal subject of Silla who once served as the governor of Sapryangju. There will also be the Samjangsu Spirit Dance Competition, expressing the robust spirit of the three brothers Lee Jingseok, Jingok, and Jingyu, who were renowned military officers from Yangsan during the early Joseon period.
Additionally, continuing from last year, a floating bridge symbolizing the historic Gukgye Bridge that once existed at the festival site will be installed and operated at the Yangsancheon riverside. This year, the bridge will be extended to reach the island in the river. The island, named ‘Sapryang Whale Island’ for its whale-like appearance from satellite imagery, is an unknown space accessible only during the festival period. Events such as writing wishes will be held here to inspire hope among citizens.
Furthermore, the festival will feature an expanded kids’ zone and riverside rest areas for families to enjoy, as well as facilities befitting a women-friendly city, such as women-only restrooms, nursing rooms, and stroller rental stations.
On the special stage near the inline skating rink, the first day, October 4th, will feature a parade with the citizens’ wind band and traditional percussion, a fusion Korean music performance, an opening fireworks show, and congratulatory performances by invited singers such as Jang Yoonjeong, Koyote, Seo Jio, BB Girls, Younggi, Choi Jeonseol, and Park Seongwoo. On the second day, October 5th, there will be the Samjangsu Miss & Mr. Body Fitness Competition, the Samjangsu Spirit Dance Competition, and more celebratory performances. The final day, October 6th, will include the Yangsan Citizens Song Festival, a closing fireworks show, and performances by invited singers such as My Jin, Hong Ji-yoon, Jin Simon, Yang Ji-won, Kwak Chang-seon, Yoo Min-ji, and Ko Jeong-woo, bringing the festival to a spectacular close.
Mayor Na Dongyeon stated, “This year’s festival is one day longer than previous years and is filled with even richer and more exciting content. We are preparing so that all visitors, including Yangsan citizens, can create unforgettable memories. We hope many people will take an interest and come enjoy the festival.”
In addition, to welcome the season of festivals, Yangsan City will offer a variety of cultural and artistic events, providing citizens and tourists with opportunities to enjoy cultural experiences and performances outdoors and make happy memories.
