Haenggung-dong in Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, home to the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is being transformed into a 'Walking Together Street.'
On the 23rd, Suwon City announced that, together with the Haenggung-dong Residents' Autonomous Committee, it will pilot operate the ‘Haenggung-dong Walking Together Street’ (formerly Car-Free Street) from October 3rd to the end of December.
Accordingly, vehicle traffic will be restricted every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Haengnidan-gil (the section from 34 Hwaseomun-ro to 869-1 Jeongjo-ro), creating a safe pedestrian walkway.
The Haenggung-dong Walking Together Street is a project proposed by the Haenggung-dong Residents' Autonomous Committee and operated jointly with Suwon City. Suwon City provided administrative support, including consultations with related organizations.
To convey a sustainable and eco-friendly meaning, the name was changed from the existing ‘Car-Free Street’ to the new ‘Walking Together Street.’
Suwon City and the Haenggung-dong Residents' Autonomous Committee plan to continuously operate the street after the pilot period by addressing any issues.
A Suwon City official stated, "We have launched the ‘Haenggung-dong Walking Together Street’ to promote a safe and pleasant walking culture," and added, "We kindly ask visitors to Haenggung-dong to use public transportation."
