A teenage minor was found dead in the Gyeongin Ara Waterway in Incheon, prompting the police to launch an investigation. On the 17th, the body of a man in his 50s was also found mutilated in the Gyeongin Ara Waterway.

According to Yonhap News on the 22nd, the Incheon Western Police Station discovered the body of a teenage boy, identified as A, in the Gyeongin Ara Waterway canal in Oryu-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, around 2 p.m. on the 21st. The body of A was found by a navigator operating a vessel on the Ara Waterway at the time. The navigator spotted A’s body floating on the water and immediately reported it to the police.

The police identified A as a teenage minor male. No signs of trauma or indications of homicide were found on A’s body. To determine the exact cause of death, the police requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service. They also plan to keep an open investigation considering various possibilities, including reviewing CCTV footage from the accident site.

Meanwhile, on Chuseok day, the 17th, a man in his 50s, identified as B, was found dead in the Gyeongin Ara Waterway. The police received a report around 10 a.m. that day from Nooji-dong, Gyeyang-gu, about a person floating near the water’s edge in the Ara Waterway canal. Upon arrival, the police found B’s body floating by the water, with some parts of the body mutilated. After reviewing the CCTV footage from the scene, the police concluded that the mutilation was related to B’s own actions and found no evidence of criminal activity.

The police requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of B’s death. They are also searching for the missing parts of B’s body based on surrounding CCTV footage. A police official told Yonhap News, “It seems that B’s time of death was not long ago,” adding, “Since some parts of the body are missing, we are conducting a search in the surrounding area.”

The Ara Waterway is a waterway that stretches across Seoul, Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province, and Incheon. Opened in May 2012, this waterway runs from the Ara Hangang Lock near Haengju Bridge in Gaehwa-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, through Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province and Gyeyang-gu in Incheon, and heads toward the West Sea via Seo-gu, Incheon. Its total length is 18.8 km.
