Preemptive Measures Against Environmental Pollution
Focused Crackdown on Proper Waste and Sewage Treatment

The Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office of the Ministry of Environment (Director Park Yeon-jae) announced on the 21st that it will conduct special inspections of golf courses in the jurisdiction starting late this month in preparation for the increase in golf users during the autumn season.

This inspection will target 10 golf courses in the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas. It is being promoted to prevent environmental pollution within golf courses in advance, with a focus on checking the proper disposal of waste and sewage.

In particular, the inspection will cover the proper disposal and storage of business waste such as grass clippings generated during weeding work at golf courses, compliance with water quality standards for effluent discharged from individual sewage treatment facilities, and adherence to other environmental regulations.

Major violations identified during golf course inspections over the past two years include violations of waste disposal standards, failure to prepare operation logs for sewage and wastewater, exceeding effluent water quality standards, and failure to complete technical manager training.

Park Yeon-jae, Director of the Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office, stated, “As the number of golf players increases, we plan to strictly crack down on environmental pollution activities at golf courses,” and urged, “Golf course operators should also make voluntary efforts to prevent environmental pollution caused by negligence in management.”
