Mercedes-Benz Recalls 520,000 Vehicles in China

"Wheel Speed Sensor Defect"

Beijing Benz, a local joint venture of German Mercedes-Benz in China, announced on the 20th that it will recall more than 520,000 cars produced in China.

According to Chinese media Caijing, the State Administration for Market Regulation, China's regulatory authority, announced this fact in a statement released on the same day.

The recall targets 241,861 imported A, B, CLA, and GLA class vehicles imported between August 30, 2011, and April 3, 2019, and 281,233 GLA class vehicles produced in China between March 13, 2014, and October 12, 2019. The recall will begin on November 27.

The administration explained, "Some vehicles included in the recall have insufficient moisture resistance in the material of the wheel speed sensor cover, which may cause the sensor to malfunction after prolonged use in hot and humid environments," adding that there could be issues with some functions of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP).

Mercedes-Benz is an active investor in China. The total investment by Mercedes-Benz and its Chinese partners in China from 2014 to last year exceeded 100 billion yuan (approximately 18.8 trillion KRW), and they recently announced plans to invest an additional 14 billion yuan.
