Doosan Signs Agreement to Supply Turbines for New Czech Nuclear Power Plant

President Yoon Suk-yeol, during his visit to the Czech Republic, reached an agreement for South Korea and the Czech Republic to cooperate across the entire nuclear power plant lifecycle, including construction, workforce training, and technology development.
On the 20th (local time) at 10:30 a.m., President Yoon and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala attended the 'Korea-Czech Republic Nuclear Power Full-Cycle Cooperation Agreement Ceremony' held at Doosan ?koda Power in Plze?, Czech Republic.
At this ceremony, both countries presented a shared vision of "Nuclear Power Plants Built Together by Two Nations" and signed a total of 13 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) covering the entire nuclear power lifecycle, including construction, workforce training, and technology development.
Minister An Deok-geun of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Minister Jozef S?kela of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade signed the Korea-Czech nuclear cooperation MOUs and agreed to promote comprehensive cooperation not only in nuclear power plant construction but also in workforce training and technology development. To this end, both countries will establish a director-level consultative body to discuss specific cooperation plans.
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Doosan Enerbility, and Doosan ?koda Power signed a cooperation agreement to supply turbines for the Czech new nuclear power plant project. Accordingly, when KHNP signs the final contract for the Czech new nuclear power plant construction project in March next year, Doosan ?koda Power will be responsible for supplying the turbines.
Doosan ?koda Power, acquired by Doosan Enerbility in 2009, is a company possessing original steam turbine technology and has experience supplying turbines for Dukovany Units 1-4 and Temel?n Units 1 and 2.
The Korea Advanced Institute of Nuclear Technology and Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic signed an MOU on nuclear workforce training. To prepare for workforce demand for new nuclear power plant construction, a nuclear cooperation center will be established at Brno University of Technology, and they agreed to cultivate customized experts through master's and doctoral training, in-service training, and joint research.
The Korea Nuclear Industry Association and the Czech Power Industry Alliance signed an MOU on localization cooperation. They plan to support joint development of equipment supply chains by discovering various business cooperation opportunities between companies of both countries and exploring cooperation methods.
The Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning and the University of West Bohemia signed an MOU on nuclear technology cooperation. Both institutions agreed to promote mid- to long-term research cooperation, including technology information exchange, joint research, and personnel exchange related to the nuclear field.
Additionally, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy explained that nuclear power companies and related organizations from both countries signed MOUs covering various fields such as equipment, construction, design, commissioning, nuclear fuel, and radioactive waste.
An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "This exchange between the two heads of state has established a full-cycle nuclear cooperation system to successfully advance the new nuclear power plant construction project," and added, "In consultation with the Czech side, we plan to promptly activate the director-level consultative body and thoroughly implement related follow-up measures."
