As public anxiety over electric vehicle fires intensifies, Jeollanam-do announced on the 20th that it has established a "Comprehensive Safety Plan for Electric Vehicle Fire Prevention."

According to Jeonnam Province, the comprehensive safety plan for electric vehicle fire prevention focuses on strengthening fire prevention and response capabilities in connection with the government policy announced on the 6th. Considering Jeonnam's characteristics with many island areas, a safety management plan for maritime transportation of electric vehicles was also prepared.

To improve vulnerabilities in electric vehicle management in multi-family housing by sector, the plan includes ▲a thorough inspection of underground parking lot sprinklers ▲recommendation to relocate underground charging facilities above ground ▲support for "fire response kits" for small-scale multi-family housing ▲and establishment of standards for installing electric vehicle charging stations above ground in new buildings.

Measures to strengthen safety management of charging facilities and fire response capabilities include ▲distribution of fire-prevention smart control chargers ▲conducting safety education for electric vehicle users twice a year ▲expansion of three types of electric vehicle-specific fire extinguishing equipment ▲and conducting on-site training for electric vehicle fire response.

Maritime transportation safety management measures include ▲support for electric vehicle fire extinguishing equipment on car ferries ▲strict guidance to comply with government guidelines for ferry vessels ▲and preparation of safe transportation measures through operation of a coastal passenger ship carrier council within the province.

Since the 4th, Jeonnam Province has formed a joint T/F team for electric vehicle fire prevention and response, involving five departments including the Social Disaster Division, to discuss detailed sector-specific measures linked to the government's "Electric Vehicle Fire Safety Management Measures," resulting in the preparation of this comprehensive plan.

Myeong Chang-hwan, Vice Governor of Jeonnam Province, said, "As public anxiety and conflicts over electric vehicle fires are increasing, we feel a heavy responsibility for safety," adding, "We will steadily implement sector-specific electric vehicle safety measures tailored to Jeonnam's conditions."
