An Opportunity to Reexamine 'Climate Crisis Response and the Value of Soil'

The "2024 Carbon Neutral Soil Revival Expo," which reflects on the importance and value of soil, opened on the 20th at the Gurye Indoor Gymnasium.
Hosted by Jeollanam-do Province and Gurye County, this expo is organized by the Carbon Neutral Soil Revival Expo Promotion Committee under the theme "Sustainable Agriculture, Realization of Carbon Neutrality, and the Importance of Soil," featuring various programs. The expo runs for three days until the 22nd.
At the opening ceremony on the 20th, about 2,000 people including Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, National Assembly members Lee Gae-ho, Seo Sam-seok, Joo Cheol-hyun, Kwon Hyang-yeop, Kim Soon-ho, Mayor of Gurye County, Lee Hyun-chang, Jeollanam-do Assembly member, and local residents gathered to highlight the response to the climate crisis and the value of soil.
This expo serves as a platform to raise awareness that soil is a vital resource for achieving carbon neutrality and to share various technologies and methods for restoring soil health.
In the theme pavilion, under the title "Soil, the Source of Life, Gurye Embracing Nature," various exhibitions reflecting on the preciousness and value of soil are displayed. The corporate pavilion features 45 agriculture-related companies showcasing eco-friendly agricultural technologies and products.
At the soil exhibition hall, visitors can see the soil formation process and its importance at a glance. The sales and promotion pavilion presents various products from local businesses such as Gurye youth groups, the New Vitality Plus Project Group, and Gubangsa.
Visitors can participate in various exhibitions and seminars to gain the latest information and knowledge about carbon-neutral agriculture and experience the importance of soil firsthand through diverse hands-on events.
Governor Kim Young-rok said, "It is meaningful that the nation's first 'Carbon Neutral Soil Revival Expo' is being held in Gurye, the city of life," adding, "I hope this expo raises awareness of the seriousness of recent climate changes such as unprecedented heatwaves and serves as an opportunity to deeply recognize the importance and role of soil in achieving carbon neutrality."
