A foreign zookeeper was found dead at Bukyung Zoo in Bugyeong-dong, Jangyu-myeon, Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam, where the lion "Barami," known as the "Rib Lion" for its prominently visible ribs, used to live, prompting the police to launch an investigation.

According to the Gimhae Western Police Station on the 20th, at around 12:45 PM on the 11th, a fellow zookeeper discovered A (67), a Russian national and zookeeper, dead on the ground of the lion enclosure at Bukyung Zoo and reported it to the police.

The zoo had closed around August last year, and there are no animals or resident workers at the zoo. The police have determined that A had been living alone in the closed zoo. So far, no signs of homicide have been found.

The first autopsy result by the National Forensic Service (NFS) showed that although there were diseases in the internal organs, the cause of death was unclear, with an opinion of "unknown cause." Currently, toxicology tests are underway at the NFS to check for poisons or drug use.

The police estimate that A had been dead for several weeks. A police official stated, "If the NFS toxicology test shows no abnormalities, the case will be treated as a natural death," and added, "The Russian Embassy has been notified of A's death."
