'Jangsu Hanwoo Commercialization' Fully Launched
Various Special Cases and Regulation Relaxations Possible
The 'Low-Carbon Jangsu Hanwoo Industrialization Belt' area in Jangsu-gun, Jeonbuk, is accelerating full-scale commercialization after being selected as a 'Leading Agricultural Life Industry Zone,' a key policy of Jeonbuk Autonomous Province.
According to Jangsu-gun on the 20th, Jeonbuk Province recently held the Agricultural Life Industry Zone Committee on the 10th and selected the Low-Carbon Jangsu Hanwoo Industrial Zone as a Leading Agricultural Life Industry Zone.
Under the Jeonbuk Special Act, the Leading Zone grants the Jeonbuk Governor various authorities such as lifting agricultural promotion area restrictions and permitting farmland conversion, allowing for various special cases and regulatory relaxations. The zone is highly likely to be used as a testbed for attracting innovative companies, national public projects, and pilot projects.

Accordingly, the county aims to establish an industrialization belt from breeding stock-production-processing-distribution targeting high value-added Hanwoo production. It is expected to lay the foundation to develop 'Jangsu Hanwoo' into a national brand by connecting with local farms.
By 2029, a total of 14 detailed projects will be promoted, including ▲low-methane breeding stock and feed technology development ▲demonstration complexes and low-carbon feeding management for farms ▲low-carbon modernization of slaughterhouses and processing centers ▲integration and monitoring of low-carbon distribution, sales, and exports.
A county official stated, "We plan to reduce greenhouse gases by 18% by 2029 and pioneer the nation's first 'Low-Carbon Livestock Product County Certification Label System.' We aim to establish the JCMS (Jangsu Hanwoo Carbon Emission Management System) digital platform to realize a sustainable livestock model."
Meanwhile, the zone will connect existing regional hubs to build a linked low-carbon supply chain. Without prior administrative procedures such as permits related to zone establishment, rapid project implementation has begun. A master plan concretizing the project plan has been initiated, and the designation notice of the Agricultural Life Industry Zone from Jeonbuk Province is scheduled for the first half of next year.
Choi Hoon-sik, the county governor, said, "By establishing the Low-Carbon Jangsu Hanwoo Industrialization Belt, we are preserving pride as a renowned Hanwoo production area and opening the future of sustainable livestock farming. We will do our best to revitalize the local economy as a low-carbon livestock model that strengthens farm competitiveness in response to climate change, making Jangsu-gun a center of the agricultural life industry."
