Personnel and Equipment Pre-Deployed in Flood-Prone Areas to Prevent Casualties in Advance

Pohang City has entered a state of full-scale preemptive response after holding a situation assessment meeting at the Disaster Comprehensive Situation Room on the 20th, in preparation for the forecasted heavy rainfall and strong rain bands caused by the stationary front.

Pohang City Enters Emergency Response Mode for Heavy Rain... Citizen Safety Top Priority On the 20th, Pohang City held a situation assessment meeting at the Disaster Control Headquarters to prepare for heavy rain, initiating a proactive full-scale response posture.

The meeting, presided over by Deputy Mayor Jang Sanggil, was convened to proactively respond to the impact of Typhoon Pulasan No. 14, as a strong rain band is expected to pass through Pohang from the night of the 20th to midday on the 21st, bringing heavy rainfall of 30 to 80 mm per hour and a total of more than 120 mm.

During the meeting, it was decided to maintain a situation management duty system for the safety of citizens, to closely share information with relevant departments and related agencies, and to respond swiftly to emergencies.

Deputy Mayor Jang emphasized the need to strengthen public awareness to prevent casualties, and instructed that control and resident evacuation measures for flood-prone areas, including rivers, should be implemented one step ahead.

He also requested that the disaster and safety accident management system be maintained, and that any signs of danger be immediately shared and disseminated to enable prompt response.

The city plans to raise the emergency response level according to weather conditions, and to pre-deploy equipment and personnel from related agencies to the field to ensure a swift response.

In particular, to prioritize the prevention of casualties, the city will conduct preemptive evacuations of residents from areas at risk of landslides or flooding, assign personnel to guide them to designated shelters, and issue preemptive evacuation orders to high-risk households, with mandatory evacuation to be enforced if necessary.

Deputy Mayor Jang Sanggil stated, "With the end of the heatwave and the sudden autumn monsoon, we will focus our administrative efforts on protecting citizens' safety by raising the response level even before the heavy rain begins to prevent any damage. We also ask citizens to refrain from going out or entering dangerous areas, and to promptly comply with preemptive evacuation instructions according to city guidance."
