On the 20th, the Yangju Fire Station in Gyeonggi Province (Chief Kang Deok-won) urged people to familiarize themselves with the use of escape devices called wan-gang-gi, which allow safe evacuation to the ground when evacuation through hallways or stairs is impossible during building fires or disasters.
Wan-gang-gi are evacuation devices installed on the 3rd to 10th floors of major buildings such as apartment complexes, lodging facilities, office buildings, and mixed-use buildings, and are useful in situations where evacuation through hallways and stairs is not possible.
The usage steps for wan-gang-gi are as follows: ▲ hook and lock the wan-gang-gi ring onto the support ring ▲ if the support is folded, unfold it and push the support outside the window ▲ check if there is anyone below, then throw the rope down to the ground ▲ wear the safety belt up to chest height and pull the fixing ring toward the chest to secure it ▲ extend both arms fully, touch the wall, and descend carefully to prevent the belt from loosening.
Additionally, applications for wan-gang-gi experience can be made by contacting the nearest fire station or safety experience center, where prompt and courteous responses are available.
Chief Kang Deok-won stated, “Installation and familiarity with the use of wan-gang-gi for emergency situations are essential,” adding, “We will continue to focus on promotion and education so that all citizens can learn the correct usage.”
