Preparing Thoroughly for the 2024 Yeongdeok Cultural Heritage Night Event
Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province has been selected for the fourth consecutive year for the "National Heritage Night Tour Project" as part of the "2025 Our Hometown National Heritage Utilization Project" recently announced by the National Heritage Administration.
The National Heritage Administration selected a total of 133 projects in three categories for the "Our Hometown National Heritage Utilization Project": National Heritage Night Tour, Traditional Temple National Heritage Utilization, and Old House & Jongga Utilization. Among these, 47 locations nationwide were chosen for the National Heritage Night Tour, and in North Gyeongsang Province, four places were selected: Yeongdeok County, Gyeongju, Mungyeong, and Cheongdo.
With this, Yeongdeok County has achieved the remarkable feat of being selected for the National Heritage Night Tour Project for four consecutive years since last year.
Building on the success of the 2023 Yeongdeok Cultural Heritage Night Tour, which attracted over 10,000 visitors even in rainy weather, this year's newly organized 2024 Yeongdeok Cultural Heritage Night Tour will be held under the subtitle "Yeonghae 1924, Strolling That Night" from October 3 to 5 in the modern historical and cultural district of the old Yeonghae Market Street in Yeonghae-myeon, Yeongdeok County.
The Yeongdeok Cultural Heritage Night Tour aims to restore the Yeonghae street, which flourished 100 years ago, and create a modern folk village, thereby shedding new light on the valuable modern historical and cultural heritage of Yeongdeok County and expanding cultural enjoyment opportunities for local residents.
This year, 22 programs will be presented throughout three nights under the theme of "Eight Unique Night Scenes, 8 Nights (Ya)."
Additionally, during the event, the county is making thorough preparations to ensure the night festival is a community event by publicly recruiting local actors to guide visitors in period costumes, participants for the modern costume parade, and teams for stage performances such as Yeju Cabaret and circus troupes, all composed of Yeongdeok residents.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol stated, "As we have been selected by the National Heritage Administration for four consecutive years, we have prepared even more enriching programs for the three nights this year," expressing his hope that "many people from both inside and outside the county will visit and enjoy Yeongdeok's modern historical and cultural district." He also pledged, "We will strive to ensure that this cultural heritage night tour program does not remain a one-off event but becomes a 'nighttime specialized program' that leads the revitalization of the region's culture, tourism, and economy."
Hosted by the National Heritage Administration, North Gyeongsang Province, and Yeongdeok County, and organized by the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation, the 2024 Yeongdeok Cultural Heritage Night Tour will take place from October 3 to 5, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., in Seongnae-ri, Yeonghae-myeon, Yeongdeok County.
