The Korean Academy of Science and Technology annually presents the Korean Academy of Science and Technology Award to scholars who have made significant contributions to the advancement of basic academic fields.
Starting with the discovery of ADD1 (SREBP1c), which is involved in adipocyte differentiation and lipid synthesis in 1993, Professor Kim is a world-renowned scholar who has consistently conducted research on the 'regulation of energy metabolism homeostasis in the body' using adipose tissue as a model for over 30 years.
Recently, Professor Kim proposed the possibility that the functional differences between visceral fat and subcutaneous fat are mediated by adipose tissue stem cells, and published the research results in the biological and natural science journal Cell Metabolism.
As of recently, the total number of SCI papers published by Professor Kim is 156, with these papers being cited over 24,000 times. His H-index, a metric indicating an individual researcher's academic achievements and impact, has reached 73.
