According to police and fire authorities, a related report was received on the morning of the 20th, and the area around the main gate parking lot of the complex where the debris of the trash balloon was found is currently being controlled. The discovered contents were identified as plastic waste. Military authorities dispatched personnel to collect the debris and plan to check for any hazards or contamination.

Previously, in May, debris from a trash balloon sent by North Korea was found on the rooftop of the Government Seoul Complex. In July, concerns grew as debris also fell within the Yongsan Presidential Office Complex.

North Korea is engaging in 'complex provocations' ahead of the U.S. presidential election in November. After revealing a highly enriched uranium (HEU) production facility for the first time, it resumed military provocations such as missile launches during the Chuseok holiday period.

In particular, the frequency of trash balloon dispersal targeting South Korea is increasing independently of our organizations' leaflet campaigns against North Korea. This month, trash balloon dispersals were identified on the 4th to 8th, 11th, and 14th to 15th.
