Goal for Designation of Autonomous Public High Schools 2.0
Paju-si Anticipates a New Turning Point in Educational Development

Paju-si Actively Supports Munsan High School's Designation as 'Autonomous Public High School 2.0' Munsan High School Autonomous Public High School 2.0 Operation and Support Agreement Ceremony.

Gyeonggi Paju City announced that it will actively support Munsan High School (22 Dangdong 1-ro, Munsan-eup) to be designated as an ‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0’.

To create new momentum for educational development in the northern Paju area, the city signed a business agreement with Munsan High School on the 12th for the designation of Autonomous Public High School 2.0.

The agreement ceremony was attended by Lee Jong-chun, Director of Culture and Education Bureau of Paju City; Lim Hae-gyu, President of Du-Won College of Engineering; Kim Jeong-su, President of Seoyoung University; Choo Won-oh, Director of Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Paju Hospital; Kim Jae-hyun, CEO of Munsan Mucheok Joeun Hospital; Han Young-don, CEO of Hanul Saengyak Co., Ltd.; and Lee Sang-joo, Paju branch of the Korea Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations, who gathered to support Munsan High School’s application for the ‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0 project.’

The ‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0’ promoted by the Ministry of Education is an autonomous education model that utilizes local resources to improve educational conditions in rural and old urban areas. Unlike the existing autonomous public high schools, 2.0 allows schools to collaborate with various local entities such as local governments, universities, and companies to conduct diverse curriculum programs.

The main contents of the agreement include △Enhancement of educational capacity (establishing an organic cooperative system linked with the educational development special zone) △Curriculum support (participation in curricula that support students’ learning and growth) △Character and peace education (cultivating practicing citizenship) △Career education and talent development, among others.

According to the agreement, Munsan High School aims for designation as an Autonomous Public High School 2.0 by △developing customized educational programs linked with local universities △strengthening practical education through collaboration with companies △securing various educational resources through support from local institutions, thereby presenting a new school model.

Principal Pyo Yoon-cheol of Munsan High School said, “This agreement is an important starting point for the development of Munsan High School and strengthening cooperation with the local community,” adding, “We will actively promote the designation of Autonomous Public High School 2.0 to provide students with a quality educational environment and nurture future-oriented talents.”

Son Hyung-bae, Chairperson of the Munsan High School Steering Committee, said, “Since various company and university officials have gathered with the shared goal of proper education and growth for the children, we will do our best to ensure that Munsan High School is designated as an Autonomous Public High School 2.0 and operates successfully.”

Kim Kyung-il, Mayor of Paju City, stated, “‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0’ is expected to become a new turning point for educational development in Paju City by providing students with distinctive curricula through the participation of various stakeholders and serving as a leading model for strengthening general high school education capabilities,” adding, “We will actively communicate and cooperate closely with related institutions to strive for the designation of ‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0.’”
