Heavy Rain Expected Mainly in Gangwon East Coast and Mountain Areas from 20th to 22nd
Gangwon Province Declares 'Emergency Level 1'... Administrative Efforts Focused on Preventing Resident Damage
Gangwon Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced that, with heavy rain forecasted in the Gangwon region from today until Sunday the 22nd, it has proactively activated Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Emergency Level 1 duty starting at 9 a.m. today. Additionally, preparations are underway to escalate to Emergency Level 2 for immediate response if the heavy rain warning is expanded.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that the rain will begin on the afternoon of the 20th and continue until Sunday the 22nd. It predicted 30 to 100 mm of rain in the inland areas of Gangwon, over 150 mm in the southern inland areas, over 120 mm in the central and northern inland areas, 100 to 200 mm along the Gangwon East Coast and mountainous areas, with some places receiving more than 300 mm.
Furthermore, at 10 a.m. today, a heavy rain advisory was issued for Cheorwon County, and from noon to 6 p.m., a preliminary heavy rain warning was issued for all 17 cities and counties within Gangwon Province.
Accordingly, the provincial Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters is conducting emergency duty with personnel from relevant departments in agriculture, rivers, construction, fisheries, and roads. In cooperation with cities and counties, they are strengthening pre-inspections of high-risk facilities such as landslide-prone areas and flood-vulnerable roads, focusing all efforts on damage prevention.
Governor Kim urged, “Since the heaviest rainfall this summer is expected mainly in the Yeongdong region, please concentrate administrative efforts to prevent any damage to residents.”
