A Signal for the Successful Hosting of the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships
Gumi Civic Stadium in North Gyeongsang Province was officially certified as a Class-1 facility by World Athletics (WA) on September 17, establishing itself as the premier venue for international competitions in Korea.
With this certification, Gumi Civic Stadium is now eligible to host all international and domestic track and field events, and records set during competitions held here will be recognized as world records.
Class-1 is the highest grade, allowing all types of track and field competitions, including international athletics championships and Olympic events.
For this certification, the city replaced the main and auxiliary stadium tracks with a poured-in-place elastic urethane surface, which received World Athletics certification in June. Gumi Civic Stadium is the only facility in Korea with a top-grade international certified urethane track.
In particular, the track, constructed using the embossing method, offers excellent shock absorption and slip resistance, providing athletes with the optimal environment to perform at their best.
On-site physical property tests and laboratory tests for PAHs and heavy metal content, conducted by the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL), also confirmed compliance with Class-1 standards, proving the safety and performance of the facility.
Mayor Kim Jangho stated, "The international Class-1 certification of Gumi Civic Stadium marks the beginning of a successful 2025 Asian Athletics Championships," adding, "We will continue our efforts so that Gumi can grow into a global sports city and enhance the pride of our citizens."
