'Book Lending No.1' Yongin to Hold 'Book Festival' at City Hall Plaza

Special Day with Books on the 5th of Next Month!
Author Lectures, Book Concerts, Booknics, Book Tents, and More Prepared

The city of Yongin, ranked number one in book loans in Gyeonggi Province for six consecutive years, will hold a large-scale book festival on the 5th of next month.


Yongin City announced on the 20th that it will host the "6th Yongin Book Festival 2024" at the city hall plaza on the 5th of next month under the theme "Make Today Special with Books!" The city plans to offer various programs at this festival, including a relay author lecture series, an autumn poetry book concert, library service experience booths, a book sale of withdrawn books, book picnics, and book tents.

◆ A Reading Festival Combining Lectures and Performances= The main event of this festival is the "Relay Author Lecture Series." The lectures will proceed in the order of ▲Misconceptions about Plants (Lee So-young) ▲TEXT HIP? Shall We Really Read It? (Kim Kyu-beom) ▲Stories of Singing Picture Books (Gwak Young-mi). Each lecture can accommodate 30 participants. Twenty participants can register in advance from the 24th via the library website, and ten spots will be available for on-site registration on the day of the event.


Various performances will also take place. Planned events include Dreaming Magic's "Reading Encouragement Magic & Bubble Show," Arke Culture's "Poet and Music" book concert, and "Yongin Cultural Foundation I'm Busker" organized by Recipe Note and Clown Jin. Among these, the "Poet and Music" book concert introduces works by seven poets accompanied by classical music performances.


◆ Over 40 Experience Booths... Diverse Exhibitions and Events= At the event, public libraries, small libraries, bookstores, and partner organizations in the region will operate experience booths on various themes. Public libraries will set up 11 booths to promote ▲Book of the Year ▲Reading Marathon ▲Specialized projects by each library ▲Bookstart ▲Family Picture Book Book Picnic ▲Digital Creation Lab ▲Electronic Resources Experience Center, and will conduct related craft and quiz experience programs.


Three small libraries?Suji Dreaming Library, Dreaming Small Library, and Sangha Small Library?as well as the Yongin City Bookstore Cooperative and Blank Playground bookstore will participate to engage with citizens.


◆ How About Enjoying a Book Picnic?= A book sale event will be held where about 5,000 withdrawn library books will be sold for 1,000 won each, and a flea market where citizens can sell used books or items will also take place. Book purchases can be made in cash.


A "Book Picnic Zone" combining books and picnics and book tents will be provided. To support this, the city will lend related items such as books, mats, and props. Book picnic kits and book tents can be used for three hours each, with both advance and on-site reservations available. Additionally, the event will feature a booth stamp tour, participation certification for satisfaction surveys, social media (SNS) promotional events, and food trucks.


Meanwhile, the city is recruiting volunteers to assist with program operations and maintaining order at the venue through the "1365 Volunteer Portal" until the 29th. A city official said, "We prepared this year's festival by reflecting on last year's participants' feedback, such as expanding meetings with authors, increasing rest areas, and expanding youth programs," adding, "We hope citizens enjoy leisure time outdoors with books on an autumn day."
