CJ Freshway Designated as the First Seafood Safety Inspection Agency in the B2B Food Ingredient Industry

The Food Safety Research Laboratory of CJ Freshway announced on the 20th that it has been designated as the first seafood safety inspection agency in the B2B food ingredient distribution industry. Seafood safety inspection agencies are institutions designated and managed by the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to professionally conduct seafood safety investigations and test analyses.

The Food Safety Research Laboratory of CJ Freshway passed a rigorous evaluation process including facility, expert personnel, and inspection capability assessments, gaining external credibility and recognition for its food safety management capabilities. Located in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, the Food Safety Research Laboratory has been responsible for verifying product safety necessary for CJ Freshway’s product development and distribution since its establishment in 2003.

Following this designation as an inspection agency, CJ Freshway plans to conduct seafood radiation inspections under the supervision of the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service. CJ Freshway has devoted significant effort to seafood safety management by strengthening its own radiation safety standards and expanding inspection equipment and personnel to ensure the safe distribution of seafood. Currently, CJ Freshway can conduct up to 800 radiation inspections annually.

CJ Freshway intends not only to accumulate expertise related to seafood radiation inspections but also to expand the scope of radiation inspections to processed foods in the future and enhance product safety. Last month, CJ Freshway won the Minister’s Award at the ‘11th Marine and Fisheries Business and Public Service Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries for the idea of a ‘Seafood Radiation Safety Mapping App.’

Meanwhile, CJ Freshway’s Food Safety Research Laboratory is responsible for food safety throughout the entire food ingredient distribution process as well as in food service and manufacturing sites. It also operates as a nationally certified testing agency in various fields, including ▲food, ▲livestock products, and ▲veterinary drugs under the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and ▲rice and brown rice under the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service.
