Thieves who broke through the ceiling of a building in the United States and quickly stole cash have fled the scene.
According to NBC News and other foreign media on the 19th (local time), a duo of thieves broke into a check cashing exchange in Atlanta, southern Georgia, at around 8:17 a.m. on the 3rd. It is known that they committed the crime during the early morning hours when employees were preparing to open.
CCTV footage of the crime shows white debris falling from the ceiling as masked thieves descended from above. Seeing this, an employee was so startled that they sat down, and the thieves threatened the employee to open the safe. Unable to resist the threats, the employee opened the safe, and the thieves scooped up about $150,000 (approximately 200 million KRW) in cash into bags they had prepared in advance.
After completing the crime, the thieves removed their masks and fled through the back door. Their images were captured on nearby CCTV, and the police reported that both suspects are Black males. The suspects escaped in a vehicle waiting for them, which was reportedly driven by a third unidentified suspect.
The exchange employee who lost the cash testified that they heard thumping sounds from the ceiling before the thieves broke in but did not suspect anything unusual. It is reported that the suspects made a hole in the roof using power tools. The police are tracking the suspects, but even two weeks after the incident, their whereabouts remain unknown, increasing anxiety among local residents.
Netizens who saw the video reacted with comments such as, "Thieves coming down from the ceiling, not even the window? the employee must have been shocked," "I hope the thieves are caught soon," and "Exchange offices should install emergency bells to prepare for situations like this."
