Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th that it will hold the ‘49th Anniversary Civil Defense Corps Founding Ceremony’ and the ‘2024 Gyeonggi Peace and Security Festival’ over two days on the 27th and 28th at the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Government Complex.

Under the slogan “Security Exists, Connecting Peace,” the event aims to reflect on the role and significance of the Civil Defense Corps, honor the heroes dedicated to protecting the nation through a grand festival, and pledge to continue peace.

On the morning of the 27th, the 49th Anniversary Civil Defense Corps Founding Ceremony will take place at Geumo Tourist Square in front of the Northern Provincial Government Complex, including awards for outstanding civil defense service, congratulatory performances, and encouragement for the Civil Defense Corps commanders and related personnel.

In the afternoon, the ‘Border Area Emergency Preparedness Council’ will hold the Gyeonggi Peace and Security Seminar to protect citizens’ lives and safety from rapidly changing security threats such as North Korean nuclear issues and drones. This seminar is organized to discuss drone threats and countermeasures, as well as to deliberate on resident evacuation and the establishment of evacuation facilities to protect border area residents in the event of attacks involving North Korean missiles and nuclear weapons.

Additionally, the 2024 Peace and Security Festival, held on the 27th and 28th on the six-lane road in front of the Northern Provincial Government Complex, offers programs accessible to people of all ages, allowing them to vividly experience peace and security through exhibitions, hands-on activities, and performances.

The military equipment exhibition will feature participants such as the Ministry of National Defense’s Remains Recovery Unit, the Marine Corps 2nd Division, the Air Force 10th Fighter Wing, and the Army 8th Mobile Division. More than 60 types of land, sea, and air military equipment, including key military assets like the K2 tank and K9 self-propelled howitzer, will be displayed, and visitors will have the opportunity to directly experience the equipment, promising a special experience for attendees.

Alongside the exhibition of photos and relics from the Korean War remains recovery, there will be performances by military bands, dance, musicals, and Taekwondo demonstrations. Visitors can also participate in various hands-on programs such as fire safety experiences, soft gun experiences, and making Taegeukgi flags.

Um Gi-man, Gyeonggi Province’s Emergency Planning Officer, said, “2024 marks a new beginning right after the 70th anniversary of the armistice agreement. Through this event, we will honor the heroes who dedicated themselves to protecting the nation and show our commitment to continuing peace on this land.” He added, “We ask for the interest and participation of residents who care about peace and security.”
